Called to be good news for others, one powerful way to do this is to help with the distribution of Eucharist at Mass. The action of the Eucharistic Minister is the template for life. What we do at Mass is what we are called to do beyond the Mass – to bring Christ to others.
The Lector helps to nourish our community with God’s words. Through proclamation by our Lectors, God once again speaks to us with words of love. Those words are comforting when we are in need, and they challenge us when we are going astray. Consider taking part in our proclamation at Mass.
If you like to sing or play an instrument, there is a place for you. We have three Sunday Masses with choral/music ensemble: 8:00 am, 10:30 am, and 7:00 pm.
Each group rehearses one hour before Mass. You may get involved at any time. Simply show up one hour before Mass and practice with the other music ministry volunteers. There are also opportunities for cantors and accompanists. These do require an interview and audition.
Liturgy is the work of the people. To assist the priests in the liturgical celebrations, we require a committee that is representative of the community and help give feedback, discuss, and plan appropriate ways to enhance the liturgical celebrations of our community.
During the Christmas season, we more readily want to share the bounty with which we have been richly blessed. At the beginning of the Advent season, an evergreen tree is placed in our Gathering Space. It is decorated with ornaments indicating gifts that would make Christmas a little more joyous for someone less fortunate.
Volunteers for “Cooks for Kids” at the Ronald McDonald House help prepare and serve an evening meal on the first Sunday of the month for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House at 621 Oak Street SE (across the street from the University’s Super Block dormitory complex). These are the families of children being treated for serious, and often life-threatening diseases at area hospitals.
