Founded in 1887, St. Lawrence has a long history of providing a solace for those who seek the love of Christ, and those who are called to share his abundant love.
The parish at St. Lawrence is comprised of residents and university students who come together as a family, support and uplift one another, and reach out through love and service to our neighbors. With Christ as our example, our focus is on Him. We follow His instructions to be a place where people can experience the love of Christ, grow spiritually, and encounter Christ through the Sacraments.
The Eucharist and Reconciliation are prominent in how we encounter Jesus and instrumental in how we are formed into a family and life together. It is through prayer that we listen and go forth into the future as a Church community, welcoming new members.
God has blessed us at St. Lawrence Catholic Church and Newman Center. We are made up of resident parishioners who live, work, and raise their families in the area, and the University of Minnesota community. Our mission at St. Lawrence Catholic Church and Newman Center is to “share the abundant love of Christ as a university Catholic parish.” Recent statistics indicate that only 10% of Catholic students still attend Mass by the time they leave college. By living our mission at St. Lawrence Newman Center, we seek to give the students here at the University of Minnesota a chance to change that statistic.
Our resident parishioners and student parishioners all have a unique opportunity to share the abundant love of Christ with others. They offer an example of the blessing that comes from living the faith, raising a family in faith and growing spiritually through a personal relationship with Christ.
“Seek first the kingdom (of God) and his righteousness, and all these things will be given you besides.” (Mt 6:33)
