Spiritual Formation

St. Lawrence-Newman provides a variety of classes, workshops, and events to help us grow in our faith. Some arise based on the needs of the time and some are part of our standard fare.

Journey of Faith: Enrich your understanding and appreciation of the Roman Catholic faith in 3 sessions through presentation, discussion, and prayer. Non-Catholics interested in learning about Catholicism are most welcome. Presented by Fr. Bob O'Donnell, CSP (rodonnell@umncatholic.org or 612-331-7941).

Bible Study and Topic Faith Sharing Group: We are currently organizing small groups that meet in the dorms to either study the Bible together or discuss topics of faith and life. Contact Fr. Bob O'Donnell, CSP (rodonnell@umncatholic.org or 612.331.7941 x103) for more information.

Centering Prayer: "Centering prayer is very simple way of prayer which can be used by anyone who wants to be with God, to experience His love and presence. It is a prayer of longing that leads into a prayer of Presence." (Fr. M. Basil Pennington, OCSO). The Centering Prayer Group meets at 6:30pm on Tuesday in Room B at St. Lawrence-Newman for an hour of lectio divina and centering prayer. For more information, contact Lucie Johnson (johluc@hotmail.com or 612-331-7941).

Retreats: Retreats are a wonderful way to escape the routines of life and be more intentional about one's spiritual journey. We had a successful 125th Anniversary: Parish Retreat on June 9, 2012. Students, keep an eye our for our Fall Student Retreat. In the Spring, everyone is invited to participate in our Busy Person's Retreat.

Year of Faith Rediscover Inittative: Starting Advent 2012, the theme for the year set by Pope Benedict is a "Year of Faith." As part of an archdiocesan-wide celebration of that theme, all parishes had set up Faith Sharing Groups to explore the richness of our Catholic faith through Rediscover Catholicism by Matthew Kelly.
