Serving Others

Action on behalf of justice and
participation in the transformation of the world
fully appear to us
as a constitutive dimension of the preaching of the Gospel, or, in other words, of the Church’s mission
for the redemption of the human race
and its liberation from every oppressive situation.

                 – “Justice in the World” – 1971 Synod of Bishops

In response to our Christ's call to build up the Kingdom of God here on earth and in our own neighborhoods, social justice is a priority of the St. Lawrence-Newman community. We approach social justice from 3 directions:

1. Direct Service Activities
allows our community to actively address immediate needs in our local community and around the world

2. Justice and Education Activities
allows our community to look at systemic causes for injustice and try to make a difference in correcting those causes and allows our community to learn, in our complex world, about some of the injustices that are going on locally and around the world and to better equip us to be more observant, more compassionate, more caring, and more active.

3. Social Justice Commitee (under development)

To better coordinate our social justice ministry and address the concerns of our community, we are planning a Social Justice Committee to over see and coordinate all our varied activities. To join this committee or to find out about our opportunities, contact Fr. Ivan or 612-331-7941 101.

Reaching Out

Besides serving others, we have the great commission of our Lord to "go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations."(Lk 28:19) Jesus was all about proclaiming the Kingdom of God and so that is our mission as His disciples. In the Spirit of Jesus Christ, we try to reach out to others in peace and reconciliation for past hurts, in dialogue with other faith traditions, and in sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ, that has touched and changed our lives.
